Twenty-one individuals, organizations and projects were recognized as “water champions” during the World Water Day Awards 2019 held at Novotel, Araneta Center Cubao, Quezon City last March 22 in line with the World Water Day celebration. These water champions were nominated by various government agencies and private institutions for their commitment to water security and environmental sustainability.
One of these champions is the Davao City Watershed Management Council (WMC) who was nominated by Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. (Apo Agua), a subsidiary of the Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC). Apo Agua conferred the Kavontog do’t Aweg (Obu-Manuvu term for Hero of the Water) Award to WMC, its first recipient under the organization category. The award
recognizes and celebrates outstanding individuals and organizations who advocate for the protection and preservation of the environment. Apo Agua recognizes WMC’s significant role in ensuring the protection of the city’s watersheds and sustainability of its water sources.
Receiving the award on behalf of WMC are Atty. Luchie Sasing-Elias, Attorney III of the City Legal Office and Head Secretariat of WMC, and Forester Christopher Asibal, Environmental Management Specialist of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).
